Planning and Research

Song: Dance Little Liar
Artist: Arctic Monkeys

I have chosen this song for the sound track to the music video because i find that the lyrics are concise and lend them selves to one theme. The lyrics also contain beautiful imagery that could be replicated in the video. In order to make the video as in keeping with the bands previous videos i am going to create the video in the style of the band's new direction.

The Arctic Monkeys were formed in Sheffield by a group of school friends who started out playing together after receiving instruments for christmas. The band started out playing pub and club around Sheffield such as 'The Grapes' which rumoured to be the venue of their first gig. The band went in to Yellow arch Studios (http://www.yellowarch.com/) where the band recorded their first demos that were passed among friends and unofficially called 'Beneath the Broad Walk'. After this the band went viral and began to build momentum, when the were then signed to Domino Records (http://www.dominorecordco.com/). The bands debut album 'What ever people say I am that's what i'm not' went straight to number one and the band was credited as one of the UK's greatest bands. The band went on to record another album that received similar feedback, but I won't go into too much depth. It was the bands next album that leads me to the point of their change in direction. The lead singer alex tuner said in an interview that he was tired of 'writing song about stand outside chip vans'. this and the collaboration with Queens of the Stone age's lead singer Josh Homme as their producer on the album Humbug. This album contains the song that I wish to create a video for (Dance Little Liar). The band only made three videos from this album, and they do not follow any sort of theme which is why I will be shooting the video in the style of the 6 video from the album 'Suck it and See'. These videos do fit to a theme as they all contain similar and sometimes a few of the same shots, and contain variations of the same characters and locations. Obviously i do not have the characters or locations from these videos at my disposal but i believe through carefully selecting similar types of locations and by profile the characters in the same way as the band then the video will be in keeping with the task i have set my self.

Possible Locations:

Bristol Suspension Bridge:

The Bristol suspension bridge has stunning views and a historical look to the area which could give the music video the production value that is needed to look like a 'hollywood' music video.

M-shed/Bristol Docks:

This location was a possibility for one of my locations for shooting because of the run down industrial look of the area. In the Arctic Monkeys videos i looked at the locations included an old scrap yard, a prison and mechanic shop which all have the same cold metallic rust feel to them that the M-shed Bristol could replicate.

Beech Cathedral Blaise Castle

The beech cathedral is another example of a locations that has stunning views to add to the production value of the video. However the trio of videos that i am trying to add to, do not contain any locations that feature this kind of natural landscape.

Portishead Lake grounds beach (Sunset)

In the music video 'Brick By Brick' shots of the band on an Australian beach are featured in the video, so this would be an appropriate location to use because it is similar to one already used by the band. The light house could also be and interesting place to shoot part of the video as it shares the industrial run down look of the bristol docks.
