Props

Guns, motor cycles, Fire, Knives, cigarettes, Animals, Cars, instruments.
A lot of the props used in these videos are used to give the band edge and make them look more dangerous and retro.
Lighting
Natural: Sunlight Fire
Artificial: The subjects of in their videos are nearly always partially lit e.g not all of there face is visible.
Perhaps the heavy use of sunlight in their later videos could have been used to make the band look more affluent, as if they live in a sunny foreign place.
Characters
Old videos: they used casting of men and women me and women from England some well known actors like Paddy Considine who feature s in many British TV dramas and Kate Ashfeild from shaun of the dead.
New Videos: in the latest video the band have used young unknown actresses to play their arm candy.
(the drummer Matt Helders features in nearly every video)

In their older video these actors were used to convey a story where as in the latest video they used in more of a montage video with a vague narrative.
Location
Old videos: in many of these video the band’s home town of Sheffield was the location fro their videos
New videos: when the band went to record their latest album in sound city they also decided to set many of their videos in the states such as ‘Brick by Brick’ ‘Evil Twin’ and ‘black treacle.
Because their early music was about the life and times of the night life of Sheffield it seems only logical that that would be the reason behind their choice of location. The latest videos could perhaps be a diversification or to appeal to wider audiences in America.
Editing

Cuts
All of the bands videos include at least some fast cuts that match the beat of the track. Other videos by the band feature longer shots that pan, sweep and zoom to focus on key aspects of the scene. Shot length is never more than 4 seconds and most shot are usually a lot shorter than this.
The synchronous sound in the videos makes the videos feel punchier and allows the action to move quickly.
Transitions
The Arctic monkeys never feature any other transition other than straight cuts from shots to shots.
This could be because fades, morph or dissolves are often used to signify dreams, end of scenes and change in scenery, where as in their music videos the cuts match the music and therefore a quick cut better suits the beat rather than a slower transition.
Effects
A variety of effects are used in the bands videos including changing the colours of the shots, making the footage look vintage and changing to black and white.
In the case of the video ‘Don’t sit down cause I’ve moved your chair’ the colours of the video has been altered to give sixties, psychedelic and abstract feel to match the abstract lyrics.
Camera Angles

Close up
In their video the band often includes close ups of the faces of the band or objects that are pertinent to the story of the video or the lyrics of the song.
These shots are used to create an identity for the band using visual metaphors and focusing of the style of each band members.
Panning Shots

The group use panning shots in their videos to show off the locations on the videos which are often in an American setting.
